Clean-up
the Welchia Worm
You may have been directed to this webpage from this pop-up message sent to your computer:
Don't panic! Your computer has been infected with the Welchia worm and is causing harm to the network, but this is easy to fix. If you do not take time to fix this problem you will be disconnected from the network and the Internet. Take action before that happens!
There is a simple tool you can run to clean your computer of the Welchia worm. You need try to do this yourself, as the Residential Life Technology office or the UITS Help Desk may be too busy to assist you with this.
1) Click on this link, select "Save", and save the file called "FixWelch.exe" to your desktop. 2) Double-click on FixWelch.exe and the tool will open:
3) Click "Start" and the tool will begin to search through all of the files on your computer for the worm. This may take a little while.
4) When the tool is done running it will either find nothing or find the worm and repair it. In either case, restart your computer and you should be clean of the Welchia worm.
